Jake’s Burgers – When Dallas tries to burger

Jakes HamburgerOver in Dallas, Jake’s has had a consistent reign over all the burger restaurants since 2006. They have received awards from D Magazines “Taste”, the Dallas Observer, CitySearch, and were even nominated for the best burger in Dallas by NBC DFW. What was next for Jake’s? Can they take over Fort Worth’s best burger.

Jake’s Burgers came into Fort Worth in the place of a Chili’s that was going out of business on Main Street. From their reputation in Dallas Jake’s was fairly well received upon opening. So now it was time for me to finally put this place to the most important test ever (at least to me); my own.
Just to start off, when you walk into Jake’s you still get that Chili’s like feeling and atmosphere, but now it has more of a sports bar feeling to it. Neon signs made to look like beer logos were everywhere and TVs all around the restaurant were on with different viewing options.

Ok, so now you are thinking something along the lines of “Get to the part about the food buddy.” Well here I go; it was pretty good. Don’t worry I am going to elaborate. I think it’s kind of weird that with all of the hoopla that I heard before, my least favorite part of the meal was the burger.

Now don’t get me wrong, the burger was still very tasty. I got the burger of the month (a chili cheese burger) and it was a very well done burger (not meaning that it was burnt). It had cheese, fritos, two patties, and an ample but not overdone amount of chili. Now unless you specifically request the single, every burger has two patties on it. This is because those patties are extremely thin. This is a plus to some but I like thick meat patties. My favorite is a trademark for all their burgers; poppy seed buns. Poppy seeds on both buns by the way.

The best part of this meal though, was the sides. We ordered an appetizer of cheesy fries with bacon bits and also some of the best sweet potato fries I have ever had. Granted I did learn that the sweet potato fries would make a great dessert. They come sprinkled with cinnamon sugar on top to make them stand out. In the words of Emeril Lagasse, “BAM!”

Overall:
-Decent burgers, but not in the running for best in Fort Worth (nice try Dallas)
-Nice relaxed and laid back environment
-Fantastic cheesy fries and out of this world sweet potato fries. (If this is my feedback about a burger joint, you’re doing it wrong).

I’m in Fort Worth and need…
